Why I think Motorhome Adventures are great

Why I think Motorhome Adventures are great

by Scottish Tourer March 30, 2020

I bet you tired and need a break?

My grandad's company is called  Scottish Tourer Motorhome Hire, he has a fleet of 18 luxury motorhomes, they provide everything you need for a fantastic holiday – picnic tables, chairs, barbeque, sat nav and even bedding and towels if you need it, they can even sort you out with some bikes as all the motorhome have bike racks, we have a dvd box which you can look through to choose a film to take with you for a rainy night.  Motorhome's are a great way to get away from work and school and enjoy time with your family out in the fresh air and enjoying the scenery.

Why is a Motorhome holiday great?

Exploring Scotland and seeing all the different villages and beaches when you on the road and if you want a break from driving – why not stop and visit a castle,  go on a cycle run or have a walk round the forest.  The motorhomes are great because on the sat nav we have set up wild camping spots so instead of staying on a campsite why don’t you wild camp on a beach, loch or in the middle of the forest.

What’s it like in a motorhome

Motorhomes are all different but if you look on our website https://www.scottishtourer.co.uk/motorhome you will see we have lots of different models, perhaps you want a child friendly motorhome our family enjoys taking the Barra or the Lewis – in the Lewis it has a special bed coming down from the roof which you just pull down and at the back of the van there is two single beds, a lounge area and a wee kitchen, the bathroom has a sink, shower and toilet.  The Barra is very much the same but has a double bed at the back of the van and the lounge area has swivel seats at the dining table.

How to cook in your motorhome

When we stop at night to camp, we like to have a barbeque, we like to choose a spot near the river, on the beach (the barbeque is supplied with your van).  Barbeques are a great way to spend time with each other after all that driving.  We like to stop at the House of Bruar on the way to Aviemore to have a look round the shops – we like to visit the butcher shop here and treat ourselves to some steak and sausages for our barbeque.  There is a lovely walk up to the waterfalls and there is a little park, if you’re lucky the fish and chip shop might be open, and you can treat yourself to fish and chips or some ice cream.

Places we like to visit
Anywhere really, Gordon the boss has a west coast route which is available in your motorhome and in the sat nav.

  • Loch Morlich near Aviemore has is a nice cycle route round the loch – I remember feeding the duck and accidentally throwing my grandads shoe in the loch he had wet feet all day.

We like to go to Grannies Heilan Hame at Dornoch this is one of our favourite campsites because you can park on the edge of the beach, this campsite has a brilliant rock pools which you can explore with a mini fishing net, crazy golf, swimming pool, park and much more, at the gift shop you can buy a kite to fly on the beach, below is a picture of our family holiday playing on the beach at Grannie Heilan Hame.

  • Drive to Applecross and drive along the cattle pass is very steep and very windy but from the top of the hill on a nice day you can see across to Raasay and the Isle of Skye.  At the bottom of the hill there is the Applecross Inn which is one of our favourites the prawns are delicious and caught by the fisherman who work there.  After dinner you can park up by the beach and have a walk along it if your lucky you might see the dear feeding on the seaweed.
